I just got the sapphire HD7970 and I`m concerned about my power supply,

It says 500v is the minimum PSU requirement for the 7970 on the box but I assume you guys know better.

FSP is a decent psu maker. If the unit has a 6 pin and a 8 pin pcie power connector, then you should be good.
If it is an older model without the two connectors, do not try to use molex adapters to do the job.
It is better to buy a quality modern psu .

Overall that psu fits the power need for a 7950 system and Fsp is a decent manufacturer, but the psu uses 2 12V rails rather than 1. Most psu use one rail because all the power is available no matter how it's wire. but the Fsp can put out 216W per rail so it should be fine.

Why not use the molex adapter? I mean one was included in the box

That assumes that the psu has the power in total.
But, if a psu has the power, it will supply the leads to use that power. Older psu's did not deliver their wattage where it is needed most, namely to the 6 or 8 pin pcie leads.

I think you might be able to make it work. If there is not sufficient power delivered to the graphics card, you may get artifacts, the card may down clock, or possibly not even work at all.
These symptoms may not show up at idle, but become more pronounced while gaming or doing a stress test.
The other problem with an underpowered psu is noise. The fan will spin up to keep the unit cool.

But, I think a underpowered quality psu is unlikely to cause any permanent damage.

So, go ahead and try it.
