I'm swapping out my HDD in my Asus A53E laptop with an SSD, primarily because it goes in and out of my truck every day, so the HDD has a pretty good chance of dying, and the faster boot up will be nice too. I use it for Exede internet installs, so I don't need much space, but decided not to go with a 60GB SSD and go with a 120GB SSD, and I've narrowed it down to either the Intel 520 series

or to save a few bucks, the Crucial M500

Intel has a great reputation, and a great warranty, but a friend recommends Crucial, who I know I good, but I figured I'd ask opinions here, on which is better, or not.

Thanks in advance!

Intel does have a very high MTFB rating, but I take them all with a grain of salt. Chances of failure are statistically equal amongst all drives. For professional work it would be wise to stick with Intel and I imagine you can get the best support from them.

All that said, I purchased a pair of OCZ Vertex 4 when they were nearly 20% off and haven't had any complaints. Though given my choice I would probably go for Samsung since they manufacture the memory themselves, whereas the other companies just slap flash chips and controllers manufactured by third parties onto their PCB. The concept of direct quality control appeals to me.

I appreciate the reply. The only thing I use on this computer at work is a browser, for looking at a page inside the modems, so my demands are nil, as far as that goes. The fact that is has no moving parts, and will boot up in about 20 seconds is what I'm after most. Of course....overall, it will be faster.
