Hi guys, I've been having a few issues with connecting up a LAN in my house. I'm running with a Gigabyte motherboard GA-P55A-UD3, and trying to connect my Netgear D6300 via ethernet. The Wireless connection to my other devices works fine. However, the computer keeps saying that there is no internet connection, and when I troubleshoot, it says that the ethernet cable is broken.
I connected my laptop via the same ethernet and it works fine. I then updated the Network adapter on my desktop to no avail.
I'm pretty new to the whole LAN networking, would anyone be able to throw some suggestions at me please?
According to the manual I have it all connected correctly, and i'm just unsure how to get an internet connection on my desktop now.

Thanks,
Kyle

Pull the pc from the wall where you can see the Ethernet port. If it turned on in the bios with a cable connected there should be a green led on. There should be a yellow or another led that is blinking. On the router the port should be blinking. In windows under networks make sure the Ethernet port is not disabled and under network settings it set up to auto find dns addy and auto set up for ip addy. If someone set a fixed dns or ip that will screw you up. Look under your laptop network settings make sure the same on your desktop. Sometime your missing ip4 or ip6 settings or other ms settings under network.

Had a go at all of these, and it looks like the LED for the ethernet port on the desktop doesn't light up. The only issue i have with it being a hardware issue is that I had a modem running on it yesterday and that worked fine through the same ethernet port. Is there any other reason why the computer cannot detect the ethernet other than being a hardware issue?

Make sure the modem on the wan port of the router. try anther Ethernet cable to rule out a bad cable. Check in the bios to see that no one turned the Ethernet port off. Check that the mb shield not shorting out the Ethernet port. Look in the port for broken tab or bent or missing wire.

Tried cable in Laptop and it works fine, and as far as I can see, there isn't any broken tabs in the port itself. Tried a different ethernet cable too, still no joy. Ethernet port is on in BIOS. Could it possibly be a chipset driver issue?

Also, should mention that when the computer is booting up, the ethernet LED lights up and everything, but as soon as the PC starts loading windows, the LED turns off. Which makes me think it could only be an issue the OS has with the ethernet.
