So I need more storage and will be getting a 1TB WD black HDD and a samsung 840 SSD... but should I get the 120GB as that will be enough for my OS and programs or can I get a 250GB and use the rest for SSD caching?

like you im fairly new to ssd aswell, the thought of caching never crossed me. it must have been something achieved awhile ago when ssd were more expensive.

More talk of it there, but if i was you if get the 250gb or even the 512gb and dont look back. It would take a long time to fill it up and then you have your TB hdd for backup.

I wouldn't worry about caching so much, looks like it was for ages of when 60gb was barely affordable.

Very similar setup to what i have, Samsung 840pro 512 gb + 1TB WD hdd.

Not sure what you mean by caching, the ssd drive will be used by the os and your favorite programs while other programs and internet explorer would be configured to use the hdd to save space. If you mean page file then you would probably either disable it if you have enough system memory or move it to the hdd to save space. Older programs might look for a pagefile and only for this reason to keep it, at least on the other hdd.

Heres a guide you might be interested in in getting the most out of your ssd. http://thessdreview.com/ssd-guides/optimization-guides/the-ssd-optimization-guide-2/3/ Mainly disabling defrag, power settings, recycle bin, indexing and also system restore if you choose to. It does give reasons why.

Also if this is your first time buying ssd, they are quite small and probably haven't thought about a cradle or mounting bracket for it. For this i just used velcro and mounted it securely in the case. Double sided tape works nicely too ive read, but i went the velcro so if i have to remove it any time its not a hassle to.

well i don't know crap about SSD or HDD lol but i thought i could get a 250GB SSD, use 100GB for OS and programs (i don't have a lot) and then use the rest as cache or whatever it is called to speed up programs on my HDD, mainly steam, orgin and games i play a lot such as skyrim, left for dead 2, BF3 as these take a bit to load... would that be possible or should i just get a 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD?
