Hi guys, sorry if i am asking stupid questions (i have never built a rig before)

I plan on building a PC soonish - My aim is to build a silent PC I can keep on for 12hrs/day but also powerful

SPECS:
- Fractal R4 - midi tower
- Z87 Asus-Pro Motherboard
- Intel Haswell i7 4770k (overclocked 4.5)
- H100i Hydro CPU cooling - top mounted rad (Stock fans replaced with NF-F12 Noctua Fans)
- 16gb (8Gb x2) Corsair Vengeance - low profile, CAS 9 (1866)
- 256GB Samsung 840 Pro Series Basic SSD
- x2 EVGA GTX 780 ACX Superclocked (Or Classified - when it is released)
- 1000W Seasonic Platinum, Full Modular, 80 PLUS Platinum

QUESTION:
Given that the EVGA ACX pulls air into the card and pushes warm air out the sides (as opposed to stock 780, which pushes warm air out the back of the case) - i am in a conundrum about how to position fans to get optimum airflow/cooling. Because i have ZERO experience, i was hoping you guys could suggest something effective.

I have done a preliminary design using a similar rig setup i found on google (system fans used will be Noctua 120/140mm)

1- is the fan at the base necessary?
2- Instead, should i pull cold air from the base and push warm out out from the side panel?
3- Instead, shall i pull cold air from the top radiator fans INTO the case (as there is an exhaust at the rear), or shall i leave it in a pull configuration?

Many thanks

1. Probably not needed
2. See #1. Leave the side fan blowing in.
3. Pulling air from the rad at the top would be pulling in hot air. Leave it as you've designed, blowing up and out.

The thing about fans are - they are inexpensive and easily changeable. Set it up as you've designed, except maybe without the base fan. If in-use temps then seem too high, thing about changing something.

Don't overthink it, and don't stress over it. Monitor, and change only if needed.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

If I am to blow air from the side panel, and the GPU fan is blowing warm air into the case adjacent to the side panel fan - wont that just create turbulance and poor airflow throughout the system?

Maybe, but it is also blowing fresh air onto the GPU's. Personally, I think I'd start with it blowing in.

OP - your base exhaust will cancel out your front intake, blow it up into case so it can end up cross-flowed through the rig and out the back and/or top and try it without the side intake first.
check temps and then decide on side intake.

my opinions.

Yeh, that sounds like an ace idea. Thanks.
