Hello all,

I just recently purchased a Samsung 840 Pro and I was wondering the best way to go about transferring my windows installation onto this SSD.

I noticed there was a guide at the top of the forum but i was unsure if that applied for Windows 7 or not. (It said Windows 2000 Pro, 2000 Server, 2003 Server, or XP)

Can this guide be used to transfer my existing installation of Windows 7 onto my SSD so as to be able to boot from that drive?

Thanks!

I think Samsung provides a tool with their SSD to do so (should be on a CD that came with the drive). So just use the software that came with your SSD, read the manual or instructions that came with it, but it's usually pretty straightforward. It just does an image of an existing drive and copy it to another drive.

But personally, when I got my SSD, I preferred to reinstall Windows completely, it's a good opportunity for a clean up and start over and you will get the best performance out of your SSD. Over the years Windows tend to slow down because of all the installations and updates, the registry tend to grow, and system performance decrease. For those reasons, I usually reformat my system every 2 years.

Thank you for the reply. Wow, I didnt even think about running the disk....lol. Also, reinstalling Windows sounds like a good idea but the last time I did that was around 6 months ago, so I may not even worry about it at the moment.
