I'm thinking of changing my GPU to Sapphire Vapor X HD 7950...
Do I need to change my power supply too?? I'm really short on budget..!!
Any help will be appreciated, thanks :)

My Specs are:

Core i5 3470
Mobo: Gigabyte b75
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8gb dual Channel
GPU: Sapphire 7770 OC
Power Supply: Thermaltake Smart 430W 80+

No, your PSU can get to 500w, and 7950 requires maximum 500.

but, you shouldnt worry, because in realitly it dosent really need 500 watt, it needs much less, probably around 400 max.

they just cover their ass saying it needs 500 watt, seeing how there are some shitty PSU's out there which cant even supply what it says they can.

yours is thermaltake and is very reliable.

Enjoy your purchase!

Thermaltake power supplies do have a reputation. As overpriced junk. The only decent units are the Toughpower line over 600 watts.

You are correct in that a system with an HD 7950 needs a recommended 500w power supply. I would not trust a low end 430w Thermaltake with that card. Thermaltake power supplies not only rarely can deliver their rated wattage they are generally quite 'dirty' electrically with poor voltage regulation and high ripple and noise.

Get a decent unit from Corsair, Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Silverstone, Enermax, OCZ, Antec or Rosewill.

yes thermaltake is overpriced, but he already has that one so no point in thinking about it, i know they sometimes dont deliver what they should, and that's why i read a through review about that specific PSU, and iam fairly certain it will be up to the challenge.

but yes, if you wanna be 100% certain, you should get a new PSU, but most likely it will work with that one.

PCI-Express Connector < Thermaltake Smart 430W 80+
1 x 6+2-Pin

The 7950 needs two PCIE connectors and your PSU has one.You could use molex power , but i wouldn't using that power supply , as you are already cutting in close.Get the one i linked above to be safe and it's a much better brand.

flipkart is a Indian website...n sorry bro I'm not from India...thanks anyway :D

Just to toss in a third suggestion, I would recommend nothing less than a 650W these days, to ensure for all the components collectively (DVD requires power, USB requires power, NIC requires power, etc) aren't underpowered at anytime (yeah I got 500W for the videocard, but my NIC keeps dropping connection, well where does it get its power from?). Normally high end gaming, get high end power, done.

The Corsair is your best choice then. It's still a good unit and is plenty of power for your system.
