Transferring XP from a laptop?

Hi guys,

I'm looking into building my first computer and was looking into os systems (and holy cow, they are expensive!).

I have an old laptop that has Windows XP pre-installed on it.

Can I re-format my drive on the old laptop, and transfer the os to my newly built computer?

Since that is a manufacturers license it would be against the EULA to transfer the license to a new PC unless you were just replacing the motherboard for example. Will it work? Probably. Will Microsoft care? I have no idea but if your a business I would highly recommend against doing so as it may get your business in legal trouble when you True-up with them.
