Laptop Model: Acer Aspire 4745G
Graphic Card Model: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 512MB
OS: Windows 7 64 bits

Problem:
Laptop starting to turn to blackscreen constantly since last week. At the beginning it still manage to back to normal after restart. But then after few days it turn to black screen during every startup whenever it progress until window start-up animation, I can even still hear the welcome sound although the screen is black. I can still using the laptop through safe mode. After that I google for some related solution and found that it's probably the graphic card (display adapter) problem. So I disable the graphic card (Radeon HD 5470) option under display adapter and it goes perfectly well. But when I enable the graphic card option under display adapter in normal mode, my laptop screen will turns black again (back to previous problem).

I tried to uninstall the graphic card under display adapter and reinstall the graphic card driver (download from Acer Support) but the problem still appears. The graphic card driver after reinstall is appears to be ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 series instead of previously ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

Is it normal or I download the wrong driver although it's from Acer Support? What should I do to solve this blackscreen problem?

I tried this before but failed. It states that my laptop is not compatible with the graphic card driver but there is no doubt I download the driver from Acer Support yet it can't solve my problem. Where I can get real ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 driver if Acer Supoort is not provide the functional one?

That is the link. There is a driver verification tool. If that doesn't work, you can grab the catalyst "latest beta driver"

both links don't work for me.:( .

even blackscreen while installing the ccc. unless I disable the graphic card in device manager, or else I can't enter home screen because of blackscreen. graphic card spoiled?
:/

It could be. Do you have anyway of monitoring temps when the graphics chip is enabled?

can it done in safe mode? because the only way to enable graphic card while using is in the safe mode.

no graphic driver showed, must be caused by wrong driver installed. now my display driver on device manager appears to be Radeon HD 5400 series instead of Radeon HD 5470 like before, but still I have to disable it or else it will become blackscreen straight.

Where can I get a correct driver? Everytime when I installing the driver, it will turn black screen on the way then I have to restart again.

just now after I tried to uninstall the graphic driver and reinstall it again, finally it is now appear to be Radeon HD 5470 in device manager under display adapter again. But still blackscreen problem exists, unless I disable it or else it will turn to blackscreen immediately or after starting windows animation during restart, then still can hear the system welcome sound.

Previously when the problem is not that serious I even tried to factory reset my laptop, but still that time my screen will turns black randomly after factory reset. That time if it become blackscreen, it may becomes normal after restart, but now I must disable the graphic driver only it will become normal.

From what you told me, it is caused by drivers. But the drivers that i provided are the real ones. Do you need the radeon? As in do you game at all on your laptop?

I also think it's caused by driver but I just dunno why no relevant driver can solve the problem.

Anyway what is your meaning of do I need the radeon?

I'm not a hardcore gamer actually, FIFA 13 is the only high graphic game in my laptop now. How long usually for a laptop graphic card? mine is like about 3 years and I don't really a heavy graphic game user.:)

The reason i say this is because we could probably get your laptop display working on integrated graphics, but you wouldnt be able to game at all on those most likely.

actually I'm now using my laptop with disabled Radeon HD 5470 and only depends on Intel(R) HD Graphics already, working well but yea no more gaming in the future I assume. That's why I'm trying very hard to rescue the Radeon HD 5470.

Any other way to confirm whether graphic card is spoiled or not? In my case, even my laptop turn blackscreen, I think the system is still running because I can still put it into sleep mode by using hotkey. Or another case is I can hear the system welcome sound during startup with enabled Radeon although it turns blackscreen after starting windows animation.

Well thats the problem with laptops, you have relatively limited options for the troubleshooting. I would say take it out and try to see if it will work in a different computer, but quite frankly, we can't do that :/

alright, I'll try to seek out whether there's any other way to save it.

Anyway thank you for your assistance. You're great! :)

Hi, I'm back again, this time with a worse problem I think.

Just like what I told you previously, I still can using my laptop with disabled graphic driver. But yesterday I suddenly go crazy and decided to do a factory reset to my laptop. BOOOM! It even turn black screen during the factory reset process.

Now my problem had turned from blackscreen after windows starting to BLACKSCREEN ONCE POWER ON. I can't even go into safe mode or whatever, it's a blackscreen once power on. There is processor light on and lock keys free to on. After power on and blackscreen immediately, it still in process to startup until certain point it will restart and same problem goes on again.

I tried several way from google likes reseat ram chip and press power button for 10-30 seconds then restart but same problem still exist.

What can I do now to make it at least I can boot into safe mode? Oh ya not to mention that before this happens, I actually stupidly and purposely go into Setup(F2) during startup and change the display mode from ATI...... to dVGA, once I made this change , it's over. I did this because I think maybe if the graphic driver is the main culprit of this fault, why don't I just change the display mode then no problem will exist, but yea I made the wrong decision I think. So what's that dVGA mode is actually? I need to connect a VGA monitor to my laptop now only I can see the screen?

Well dVGA should be pretty similar to standard VGA, so I would recommend plugging in an old monitor via VGA cable, and see if you can get something from that. Also, clearing the CMOS may help:

Clearing the CMOS resets all BIOS settings to manufacturer defaults.

Well, you got it right. By connecting my laptop to a monitor using VGA cable, the screen appears. So I manage to get into a bluescreen which mentions about some failure of graphic driver (probably the root cause for my blackscreen problem). And after I switched the display mode in setup from dVGA to Hybrid, my laptop screen back to what exactly before: the blackscreen.

Actually previously after we ended our conversation, I tried to factory reset my laptop when the laptop is still usable just with disabled graphic card. Guess what, it goes well during the factory reset process but IT TURN BLACKSCREEN AGAIN DURING WINDOWS CONFIGURATION FOR FIRST USE.

So for now, my problem is:
Startup > Screen that saying windows failed to start because of software/hardware issue; choose safe mode or start windows normally > No matter which I choose it will bring me to the same problem : WINDOWS SETUP PROCESS FOR FIRST USE and then RESTART.

Any opinion on this? Can formatting laptop using a windows system disc through bios (not factory reset nor Acer System Restore which I used previously) helps to solve this??

Well now I'm willing to say you have a hardware problem. If you have factory reset the entire laptop, that would eliminate all problems except for a faulty graphics card. Did you try to clear CMOS?

yea, I also think that my graphic card is officially dead now. So now I just want to get back to how it is functional with disabled graphic card previously. haven't try, thinking to do it later.

Hi I have just read all the forums and just discovered a thing about acer aspire 4745G laptop graphics :) .. I just observed that there are two VGA on this type of laptop

1st ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 5470
2nd (Intel) HD GRAPHICS

I tried installing and re-installing the ATI Mobility graphic card for many times .. but black screen alaways appears on windows log.on screen .now this idea I want to share

go to Start - Control Panel look for Device Manager - Display Manager ..
as you can see there are two standard VGA graphics .
to see which is ATI and Intel Graphics you must do this

right click the VGA graphics and update the driver (use it automatically :) )
do it with the other one too ..don't restart immediately .

when you already know the ATI MOBILITY RADEON GRAPHICS then right click it for its properties and please disable it .. just let the (Intel) HD GRAPHICS do his job then restart ..

I will be glad if this idea of mine also will ease your ATI graphic suffer :)
