Define R4, noisy? What went wrong?

Hi all,

I just finished my first build and I'm overall really satisfied with most everything. My comp boots up in about 8 seconds, and games and browsing are amazing on 1440p.

However, my computer is a lot louder than I expected. It's not LOUD per se, but I was under the---perhaps false---impression that it would be silent cause I went the r4 case.

I have the stock case fans and the stock heat sink. I don't OC or SLI and I'm on a budget so I haven't invested in an after market heat sink. I have a GTX 660 Asus which is supposed to be famous for being really quiet.

Should I buy new case fans and a new heat sink? Which one first? Or both? Any suggestions. I don't need much performance, just absolute quietness. I use this mostly as (overwpowered) a media center.

No matter what you do, your case isn't going to be ABSOLUTELY silent. However, if you want a quieter system, your fans are probably the culprits. You should get an aftermarket heatsink, yes, but more important is to replace all your fans--case fans and heatsink fans--with silent fans. (Here's a great deal: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-120mm-Silent-Value/dp/B000O8I474/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1372089023&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=silent+fans+4+pack)

What fan is being noisy? Case fan? CPU? GPU. Hard to tell you what to replace when we don't know what's being loud. Take off the side panel and listen to find out what fan first.

Is the case fan hooked up to the MB to be controlled by it? Is it a 4 pin or 3 pin fan? Is the BIOS set to control the fan or is it set at a high speed manually.

Short answer, need more info.

Thanks for the response. I took the side panel off and it's totally my PSU. I have a seasonic m12ii and it's only powering a gtx 660 and 4th gen i5. Is it malfunctioning?
