I'd like to get some help with this build. My friend told me that the i5-3570K was more powerful than the i7-4770k, my current processor, but I was unsure. Also, can you guys reduce the price without trading performance? Thanks.

Here's the link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/19OOG

Just a couple of things I'll be doing with it:

- schoolwork
- gaming
- video editing
- recording

That is sort of comparing red apples to green apples.

i7-4770k is a Haswell quad core with hyperthreading LGA1150
i5-4670k is a Haswell quad core without hyperthreading LGA1150
i7-3770k is an Ivy Bridge quad core with hyperthreading LGA1155
i5-3570k is an Ivy Bridge quad core without hyperthreading LGA1155

Ivy Bridge runs a little cooler and can overclock better. Haswell is slightly faster core for core, but can't overclock as high, so they come out about even in terms of performance.

Without overclocking either chip, the Haswell chip would be a little faster.

You don't really need an i7 for the OP's needs. I would go with the latest CPU available.

But for the OP's proposed build I would trash the whole thing. A 430W PSU will be really insufficient. And that RAM is not from a reliable manufacturer, and you could add an SSD.

Try this:

Pretty much better everything - case, motherboard, GPU, RAM, power supply, you name it.
