Hello,

I'm looking for a graphics card upgrade, and I'm thinking of a used 8800GTX or 8800 ultra (by xfx) and suggestion? will my set up support them? should I jump into the 9XXX tier? Please help out!

My set up is:

MB: GA P31 DS3L (I read reviews about it being a good board to OC)
CPU: E6550 2.33Ghz
GC: Gigabyte 8600 GTS 256 MB
RAM: OCZ Reaper HPC CL4 DDR2 4-4-4-15 2T (2.1V) 2 x 1GB
POWER: Cooler master 650W
OS: Windows XP home edition 32 bit

Thanks !

UPDATE:

After some research, according to this post: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-8800-gts-512-mb,1743-14.html#performance_roundup

the G92 8800 GTS is a better card with better lifespan and such right?

should I find one of these or should I step into the next tier?

I've lost track with the computer world since I moved from HK to canada haha, i do know they are old, but okay so GTX 650 is your suggestion? I'm just worried about my rig wont support it, can you let me know if they do? What would you recommend?

Thanks man,

GTX 650 is the way to go? what about the ti and ti boost version? and does my rig support this card?

Well you could stick a GTX Titan in there, but it's a question of how much rendering muscle you can actually benefit from. Because you have a pretty old CPU, it would hold back powerful cards. The GTX650 Ti is MUCH faster and the Boost is as much faster again! But possible that much (or all) of the added performance would go to waste. If you kept track of hardware up to 2009, the GTX650 is the performance equivalent of the Radeon 4870 or GTX260. Course you could always buy a GTX650 Ti Boost and use it in your next system when you assemble a whole new computer.

there is a GTX 650 on bid right now, not a bad price, i would go for it, yeah wasnt really thinking of a ti or boost, but you think my system will be alright with the gtx right? i mean, if i do upgrade my computer next..i can just keep the card ?

actually sam, do you have any other places where i can IM you? it'd be alot faster cause i got some questions about OCing too and i see youve been selected many times? thatd be very helpful!
