Hi,

Im about to purchase a pc and i found an oem of win7 ultimate for £42 but the win7 ultimate retail is about £120. Whats the difference between the two and which one is more worth it?

Thanks

OEM is system builders, It's cheaper because unlike a full license you cant transfer it from one pc to another, where PC is defined by Microsoft to be, one motherboard to another.

However in the event of motherboard failure you contact microsoft and get it reactivated, and people use this, claiming the motherboard failed to get it activated on a new PC anyway. So really, the OEM is the best value, especially if your not intending to change your motherboard for a long time.

Note that you can change your CPU, GPU, Storage and RAM without trouble, although only 3 of them at one time I believe.

Would it be worth downloading an ISO and putting it on a disc or just buy the oem?

No sorry, umm, instead of getting the oem would it be worth downloading an ISO and putting it on a disc illegally, or just purchase oem for sake of mind

For the price? I'd rather go OEM.... cos then if something does go balls to the wall, you still have a legit license to work with for problem solving.

Although I know what you mean... The full retail is a rip off :p

OEM is what I used in my custom computer build. Its cheaper than the full retail copy. The only thing that sucks is the OEM version is locked to your motherboard so if you upgrade your motherboard you will have to get another copy of windows.
