Ok finally decided on Haswell for my long overdue build. Help me out on memory now!

Ok for the last week i have tossed and turned on whether to go ivy or haswell but finally said heck with it and start my haswell build.

Just started now piecing it together. This will mainly be a gaming machine but i am heavy into multi-boxing running as many instances of a game as i can usually.

So which speed ram and how much should i go with and a good brand. I dont want to waste money but there is no budget per se.

So far i just have my CPU and MOBO picked out.

I'd say 8gb (maybe 16GB if your are thinking of doing more in the near future), and would suggest 1866 (again if in budget, might think 2133 if looking to do more), think 2400 might be overkill....as far as sets, I'd look first to the GSkill Tridents, in a 2x8GB for 16GB (with either 1866 or 2133), have used about 30+ sets of various sizes and upgraded my Z77 from RJ Z 2133 to these in the 2400 32GB set.

In 8GB (2x4GB) I'd look to Ripjaws X F3-14900CL8D-8GBXM, at 2133 the same RJ X F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM

Nice combo, what all do you do with your rig, or plan to do, gaming, photos, video, CAD, etc, do you multi-task, run multiple programs windows...I ask because in general 8GB of 1600 is generall enough for most folks, but if the a few of the above apply might want to think more DRAM and possibly higher freq

This will be strictly a gaming rig/multitask machine. I love to multibox mmo's and that is the reason i chose the I7 over the I5 as i know generally the I7 is just a waste for gaming. The next game i am looking into playing and have played the beta for is Final Fantasy: ARR. My goal is to run 4 instances of this game at the same time if not more.

My PC technical level = I can build them (as in i can follow instructions and do my homework on what to not do lol) and know what each piece does lol. But when it comes to ram i really do not know how much speed/amount i will need to accomplish my gaming goals i guess.

Thanks for the reply. I initally was going to go with 16gb @1866 and just ask folks for a good recommended brand but figured i better ask as im not sure what will be needed for what i want to do. Explained in post above this.

Thanks, one more question. I know years back (if i recall correctly) that 4x4gb was preferred over 2x8gb. Not sure of the reasoning but does this hold true still?

Nope, 2x8GB is the preferred mix, as it puts less stress on the MC (memory controller), plus you leave 2 slots open to add additional DRAM if you so decide....(I'll also say I'm not an advocate of mixing sets, but have had lots of practice both on a working level and helping out providing support at GSkill's forums, (one of the reasons these sets were suggested
