Before I begin, yes I did look at the ultimate router/modem setup guide. But as I know almost next to nothing about anything network related, I couldn't make heads or tails of it. :(

Anyway, a couple of days ago my modem died on me. It was a 2wire 2701HG and I have dsl internet through windstream communications. Luckily, a friend of mine had an extra dsl modem that he was willing to give me. This one is a clear WIXB-175. So I plug in the new modem hoping it would work fine... And it didn't. What do I have to do to get this new (new to me) modem to work? Thanks.

You First have to call your ISP and tell them of the modem failure.
Your Internet account is linked to the old modem. The ISP won't let the new modem work till you all them. There going to need the modem serial number and Mac number on the bottom of the modem.

I just called their tech support. They said I don't have to give them the MAC address but since the modem is third party they would not be able to assist me in trouble shootin it.
