Hey guys,

Things have been going very smooth...

However yesterday i wanted to change my fittings on my loop and did so with succession. (no spills, no mess just quick and easy) I didnt even have to unplug anything.

Heres the problem.

after applying my new compression fittings I then proceded to fill my loop, everything seemed fine, tight, flawless. Then I continued to turn on my computer and for some reason my GPU wasnt sending a signal to my monitor, leaving me with a 'no HDMI signal'

I then tried a DVI cable which led to no avail, trying various things such as removing the GPU giving it a dust around the copper pins I tried it again and got the same result... a blank screen with the frustrating and also condesending 'no HDMI signal'

so I then drained the loop, removed the water block, checked for any leakages or wetness that may have eluded me when installing my fittings and it was 'as dry as ghandi's flip flop'... *odd* so, i then re-fitted the GPU giving it one last hopefull push of the power button to recieve yet again another blank screen... however this time i left my speakers on and heard the sound of skype logging in, I then tried (blindly) getting to windows media player and started playing some music.

So I knew the computer was booting fine and all ran fine.

I read a few forum posts suggesting resetting the bios on my Mobo, so i did that, still didnt connect.

I tried removing my CMOS battery for 30 minutes, this too gave me a negative result.

After what seemed like 3 hours of Troubleshooting I turned to my very dutiful and reliable LAN computer, removing the 4890 from it and preceded to put it into the offending main PC. To my amazement after what seemed an entirity the amber standby light on my monitor turned green and gave me a pixelated but warming Gigabyte splash screen and booted perfectly.

odd...

so I had concluded that the PCIe slot was working on my Gigabyte UD5 motherboard and now i had to check to see if the 6950 was fryed maybe from a static discharge or something of the sort.

so i put it into the lan computer and what do you know it booted...

amazed and feeling like i had just solved the all the worlds problems I excitedly put the 6950 back into my main computer and again i recieved the 'no signal' of doom prompt. I cant for the life of me understand what is happening. The GPU's are working fine when tested in another machine and it seems the PCIe slot of the Gigabyte UD5 is working, as shown with the functioning of my 4890.

i have been using my 6950 for 8 months in this motherboard and it has worked fine, i just cant understand, ive never heard of a GPU just becoming randomly incompatible with a motherboard then work in another one.

please if you have any suggestions feel free to shout them out, i am currently on my Lan computer with my 6950 while my main computer sits in the corner feeling sorry for its self with my Gigabyte UD5.

Solution
Frustrating! I am wondering if there is some reason the 6 pin connectors on the UD5 machine are not properly connecting on the 6950 and yet are connecting with the 4890. Have you tried wiggling the 6 pin connectors on your 6950 to see if there is an intermittent connection there! Perhaps one of the female sockets on the 6950 6 pin connector is slightly spread out, but on you other machine the male pins make a connection. A long shot, but possible! You might want to swap power supplies even if the other PS is too small it should work fine for non-gaming just to see if it is the connectors.
When you get it to post with the old card, Can you see if the bios is set to primary video PCIE or AUTO. Force PCIE

If you have onboard video, Check to see if video is going to it.

When you clear the cmos, Did you just do it by battery removal? If so, please ensure the power supply is disconnected(at the wall) or switched OFF(not just standby). If you leave the system plugged with the power supply ON, the power supply will keep the settings even without a battery.

Hope something here helps.

Okay maybe this will help me, I just been to my Bios and found the 'Init Display First' Option, in the Item help it shows:

[PCI Slot] VGA on PCI slot will be initialized.

[PEG] VGA on PCI express will be initiallized.

the setting that was already selected was the PCI slot option, I am asuming that this could be the cause of it not emiting a signal as the PCIe slot which my GPU was installed in was not set as the primary... still this leaves the case open to why the 4890 is functional...

Anyone's guess about that, but yeah, having it set to PEG should at least tell it to use the PCIE card.

strange thing is you can almost rule out power because the card does not even start without power.

For the hell of it, try VGA(if your screen supports it)? It would suck to have the digital out on your card fail, but I do not see many hints to your issue.

I have had this WAY back(only after a driver update) when my computer would sometimes default to my TV and not monitor, but that was always in Windows and never the bios.

***Update***

so i tried the PEG setting and that hasnt worked, the fan is still coming on the gpu and also windows is still booting.... i havent got a clue what to do next, however whn i checked my bios with the old card, something caught my eye.... the clocks i had for my cpu were still the pre bios reset ones. could this mean that the bios didnt correctly reset as my clock values were the same as before the reset.

***Update 2***

night guys im off been at this since 7PM its now 5:48 AM will be on tomorrow afternoon, please keep the advice coming anything is helpful and i will definately choose the solved option for the person who can give me the info that will help me to fix my problem... peace.
