best graphics card for under 500 dollars

hi, i was looking for the best graphics card available for under 500 dollars, and was considering the msi gtx 680 lightning. Please tell me what you think. I am open to suggestions.

The gtx 770 is one of the fastest cards you can buy tht under 500.

Sorry I didn't mean to hijack, but I had the link handy for my answer, that 770 is basically the top dog right now, the DCUII version from Asus is really nice as well. You won't beat the price to performance of a 770 as of today.

Are you gaming @ 1080p? If you are then 4GB of VRAM is overkill and you'd just be wasting money, just saying.

Skyrim with mods sits at 2.4GB. Project Cars maintains 1.75GB. Hitman Absolution uses a lot of VRAM.Max Payne 3 gets really close to 3GB at max, other games do depending on your resolution and AA settings. BF3 also used 2.5GB, but good thing that was patched.

Yet the 256bit memory bandwidth of the gtx770 will limit vram usage at 2gb. Meaning it's a waste to get the 4gb version.

I guess a better way to put it would be, what kinds of games are you playing. Just because those use a lot doesn't mean others will. All I'm saying its if you can save the money, it might be a better idea. I've never had a VRAM issue on my 2GB 670. Plus it's only a 256 bit BUS

I would recommend the ASUS GTX 770, has great reviews and has the DIRECT CU II Top cooling system.

GTX770 is just as fast but for cheaper.
I would choose that over the 680 at this point.
