Well the next gen consoles are based off of i believe Kaveri/Jaguar which are iterations of Piledriver/Steamroller FX chips. They're quad cores so i would suggest at least FX-4350, or even FX-8350. For Intel, the 3570k is a great chip, can't go wrong with that either.

I STRONLGY recommend not to buy any of the 41xx, 61xx, 81xx mainly because bulldozer was not that great, i bought a bulldozer chip and went to Piledriver and instantly saw a big difference. Bulldozer was just about entering a new architecture, but Bulldozer did a big upgrade. In some tests, it can even keep up with the 3770k which is quite a big feat. I don't care what any Intel fan boy says, new gen games prefer AMD. Especially when you have a Radeon card as well.

Next Gen Consoles are powered by 8 cored Jaguar Processor. Quad core AMD won't do the job and would give worse results than a quad core i5.

If you have a tight budget I recommend to buy an amd apu. Maybe richland but you should wait for kaveri.
Why i recommend an apu is because it's super cheap and because it has an integrated graphics card.

true, forgot about the announcements, before they stated it was quad cores. When both consoles were initially announced, the dev models they sent to the game devs were originally quad cores and then they sent an upgraded model later.

Not sure about previous announcements but when I read it, it was 8 core. That might be said as quad core before that. ^^

@Burdu - No APU can handle next generation games. The IGP is simply not strong enough. PS3 games drive PCs nuts even if its much weaker than a PC itself, I am not sure about PS4.

All I can say is, IGP won't run almost any of the games out there which makes FX 8350 the best choice for gaming yet.

Yeah,i know but I mean for a tight budget. Not everyone can buy an amd radeon 7850 and FX 8350.I only recommend APU for a tight budget (if you don't have enough money for both).amd fx 8350 is much better than APU in CPU performance but it doesn't beat APU in GPU performance(i mean without a separate GPU).example:
in Far Cry 3:amd radeon 7850+FX 8350>AMD APU but AMD FX 8350<AMD APU and both with radeon 7850 FX is better than APU.

The Jaguar CPU is an update of AMD's Bobcat CPU who's direct competition is Intel's Atom. I'm not exactly sure if the Jaguar CPU used in both PS4 and Xbox One is an actual 8 core CPU. I have read conflicting article stating it is an actual 8 core CPU and it in actually two quad cores linked together.

AMD's dual core Jaguar CPUs are expected to be used in tablets, while the quad core version is expected to appear in netbooks / very inexpensive laptops.

For current games.
Not newer titles released in future which would demand 8 cored CPU.

And yeah, FX 8350 is much better than Haswell when you consider future games.

Even though the next gen console ports are all developed for 8 core AMD cpu's, well that's a great theory then ROFL.

Depends how long into the future you're looking. Also, Ivy and Haswell w/ HT have been matching/beating AMD in 8 threaded apps.

Quad cores have been out for a long time, and games are still struggling to get a high benefit from more than 2. They're finally getting there somewhat in a few games with 4, but I think it will be a while until we get there with 8 cores.. Assuming the optimization practice devs get from the new consoles doesn't help out PC quickly.

However, between the i3 and Phenom II... if you're overclocking go with Phenom II X4 or FX 6300, if not go with the i3 and save up for an i5k IMO.

Good luck!
