Hey, I just finished building my own PC, and now my friend wants some help building his own. The price range is $900 with all the components and a monitor and a keyboard AND an OS. ( WIN 7 or 8)
We live in Sweden so keep in mind that things are very expensive here so the ideal target is more like $800-850.

*PS the reason I have no idea what the hell to tell him is because mine was a HIGH end build, costing almost $1400, so I have no experience with lower end parts.

So well, I guess that should be it in $800 range.

Solution

great setup... the OP can stick a better gpu as his budget allows... and probably will want an aftermarket cpu cooler, but i think overall this is the best use of cash.

How about something in the non-ASRock section? The best store in Sweden doesn´t sell them at all

Asus M5A97 R2.0 is about the same... maybe even better for what should be basically the same cash.

Ok, thanks a ton.

just make sure it's not the M5A97 R2.0 LE... the LE is junk. you can get the EVO just fine... sometimes i see that for about the same as the base M5A97 R2.0... but the LE version is craptastic.

My 2 cents, pay the extra $10-20 and get the 2GB version of the HD 7850.

I have the 1GB but if I could do it again I would of rather have got the 2GB for the extra headroom especially if playing on a 1080p in the future with a V-Ram hog game.

My LED is only 720p so the 1GB still is fine for me.

Well mate I too wanted 2 GB version but that costs around $180 - $220. :)

He has a really very tight budget and I wanted to get him HD 7770 but somehow found PowerColor HD 7850 for that price and thus included it.

If OP can spare a bit more for 2 GB, I would recommend it as well. :)

But 1 GB is slightly weaker performance wise. GTA IV demands around 1600 MB of VRAM, that is the only game I know of requiring that much video memory.

How about Battlefield 3 and soon 4? It must be able to run those without a problem, the build is kinda fixated on that.

It would run BF3 on Mid - High settings. I am not sure about Battlefield 4 as it is not released yet but most probably on same settings too. ^^
