I had windows 7 validated, and fully working and i wanted to try out windows 8. So i installed windows 8 on a different partition to have dual boot. I opened windows 8, i didn't like it so i didn't activate it. But now when i try to open my Windows 7 i get a black background and on the bottom right of the screen its written "This copy of Windows its not genuine". If i format my D: partition where Win8 is installed will this fix my problem? How can i fix this ?

is your copy of windows 8 retail? if so I would just go ahead and validate that copy (since it can be reused) first and see if that fixes it.

I doubt formating your partition of win8 would change anything since your Win7 already considers itself not genuine

If by some chance your windows 7 isn't a completely legal copy installing windows 8 would have overwritten the boot manager which would invalidate some of the ways you bypass the windows 7 key checks. That is the only thing 8 would have changed doing a dual boot that would affect windows 7.

If youre using retail/oem windows 7 all you need to do is have it reactivate from the computer information screen. If it doesn't reactivate just do the phone check and that will take care of it.

If I recall correctly retail and oem require keys to be input before install can happen or in the case of oem it needs to pickup the key from the bios

I think Enterprise and Beta did not require keys for install but did want them shortly after?

The 30 day grace period is definitely a thing of the past for most windows 8 installations tho.
