i had an hd 5570 card which did not require an external power supply which got damaged so they replaced it with an xfx hd 5770 which requires an power supply , when i just inserted the hd 5770 card in the pci -e slot wihout connecting the 6 pin connector the card fan spins but no output is displayed , so is the card defective again or i should get an newer corsair power supply and try ?

Solution
If the card has a 6-pin connector, then yes,it needs that to be hooked up in order to function properly. Usually, they come with a molex to PCI/E adapter cable for those PSUs that do not have a dedicated PCI/E connector.

Thanks clarkjd i will get an new corsair CX500 psu in an other day or two and test with that ,as my current powersupply is only 240w stock local brand.

Yes, having only 240 watts is also an issue(AMD recommends 450w)! You should be happy with the Corsair. It is one of the better reviewd PSU's

You don't need the 6 pin connector, cards come with a molex adaptor, however you can't use a 240w psu.

Corsair does not make psu's and CX is their cheapo model, kinda like the C-class Mercedes, however it's still decent. Hope this helps.
