I have just put 4GB RAM into a Toshiba Satellite C660D, it previously had 4GB in, but now it has 6GB in (1 4GB stick and 1 2GB stick). However, when I start the laptop up and go to start>computer>properties, it says that I have 6.00 GB installed, but only 1.75GB usable, and when I go into the bios it only recognizes the 2GB installed. HELP!!

You may say the 4GB is corrupt, but I put the other 2GB back in and it says 4GB Installed, 1.75 Usable.. I'm unsure if it was like this before though.

64 BIT windows 7 BTW

More about : ram installed ram usable

I have no idea how to.. I tried going to Toshiba's website but I couldn't find the Toshiba C660D updates.

It's the motherboard. Look up the model that you have.

You have to be careful when mixing ram sizes you can run into unsupported configurations. Single and Double sided memory becomes a factor. If you haven't already, try switching the ram positions. (put the 2GB where the 4GB is now and vice versa)

Also definitely try the 4GB stick on it's own.

I tried it in one slot, it turned on but was just completely black, I didn't bother with the other slot though.
