Only sometimes when i play newish games, my computer will completely lock up.
It seems to one of the two errors i get
1. Where the game will freeze and i'll be stuck with a 2 second sound looping (requires a hard reset)
or
2. Where the game will freeze and i'll get like a crackling sound coming out the speakers. I can hard reboot but it will do the same thing again within 5 minutes, even when left on the desktop.
The only temporary solution used to be is to turn the PC off and unplug the PSU connectors from the GPU, then connect them.
Then it will run fine and won't crash again for another weeks or so.
At first it though it might be a heat issue, but i can sometimes play Skyrim or Arma2 for 6 hours or so, other times it crashes after 40 minutes other times after 3 minutes.
I changed my PC case this week, as i thought it might somehow fix it, but it just crashed today. I have Speedfan and the GPU temps never go above 70c on full load and the CPU does go above 60c
I did buy the GPU about 6 months ago off a friend who used it quite alot.
Is the GPU dying out?
I've ran:
Heavy load for 40 mins - fine.
Furmark for 40 mins - fine
Memtest - fine
I am running:
Geforce GTX 460
Intel core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHZ
4GB ram
650W OCZ PSU
