Computer cannot find hard drive during setup

I currently have Windows 8 installed. After numerous crashes (error code 0xc000021a) that don't allow me to boot into the OS (leaving me totally unable to use my computer) I have been trying to reinstall windows 7. However, setup cannot find the hard drive. Ran a system diagnostic, says everything works fine. Any tips? I have a Dell Inspiron 17R SE if that helps. Thanks!

  1. The HD is broken, you either replace it by yourself or let someone do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0Xw83ZVsPo

It shows up in the BIOS setup menu just fine. Are you sure?
  3. If your HD shows up in the BIOS, try to press the "F8" when you turn on the computer, when you boot into the safe mode, select "Last Known Good Configuration" and press "enter". Restart the computer.
