Hi everyone

Sorry for the weird title but today marks the 20th anniversary of an accident I suffered 20 years ago witch left me paralysed from neck to toe. So let's build a new pc to cheer me up.

My first build was the following in February:

1- Phantom 410 ATX Steel Computer Case 3X5.25 6X3.5 3XUSB3.0 Audio and Mic inputs.

2- Corsair TX650 V2 650W ATX 12V Single Rail 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 80PLUS Bronze.

3- Intel Core i5 3570K Unlocked Quad Core Processor LGA1155 3.4GHZ Ivy Bridge 6MB Retail.

4- ASRock Z77 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1155 DDR3 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI SATA3 DVI HDMI USB3.0 Motherboard.

5- OCZ Agility 3 120GB 2.5in SATA3 SandForce SF-2281 SSD Solid State Disk Flash Drive.

6- ASUS Radeon HD 7770 V2 DirectCU 1020MHZ 1GB 4.6GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI Display Port PCI-E Video Card.

7- ASUS Xonar DS 7.1 Channel PCI Sound Card 24BIT DTS SPDIF w/ Low Profile Bracket.

8- ASUS BW-12B1ST Blu-Ray Writer 12X BD-R 16X DVD+R SATA Black Retail.

9- Corsair XMS3 CMX16GX3M2A1600C11 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1600 CL11-11-11-30 1.5V Dual Channel memory kit.

10- Windows 8 Pro.

Comments:

I was really disappointed with the build I did. Here why:

1- The case was a bit too big but really nice in general.

2- The power supply was fine.

3- The processor ... I really regret not to buy an I7 because I often have 10-20 opens windows from different software and it slow the pc a lot mostly while watching streaming videos.

4- The motherboard really disappointed me especially because there was no Wi-Fi and no Wi-di but it's my fault I did not read enough.

5- Perfect great SSD nothing bad to say…maybe too small.

6- This card is fine but not really fine. It’s probably just settings but my pc was connected to a VSX-1122 receiver from Pioneer thru HDMI and the receiver to TV also by HDMI and each time I used the pc to watch a movie when I turned off the pc my TV always ended up with two blacks stripes on each sides like if the card and my TV has different resolutions but both were in 1920-1080. Why? The only way I had to remove these two blacks’ stripes was to unplug the TV. Any solutions to this?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7- I did not used the sound card I guess with my HDMI’s … even though I installed an optical cable…

8- The first time I used the Blu-ray I watched the Smurfs in 3D and 5 seconds later VLC reader crashed but now it’s fine. By the way, why are they selling 3D Blu-ray’s when a regular one do the same job for 75$ less?

9- Is Corsair XMS3 good memory or ordinary one for 55$?

10- A real nightmare with W8 I was crashing 10-20 times per day than I found out that there was 5 updates that you needed to uninstall after that there was no more crashes but it has resume crashing this week.

So to end the story my pc is on sale on EBay this week with my two 24’’ monitors from Samsung.

My new build:

1- My budget is around 1500$.

2- My uses are working, playing and streaming often in 3D.

3- My dreams parts would be an I7-4770k, the new Asus ROG Maximus VI Impact Mini-ITX Motherboard and the new Nvidia GTX 780 graphic card. But they are expansive. I saw at microcenter the I7-4770k at 279, 99$ in store only … 349.99$ in Canada + tax.

For beginning I bought an orange Bitfenix Prodigy. I cannot resisted when I saw this case. (Bitfenix Prodigy mITX Mini-ITX Tower Case Orange 1X5.25EXT 5X3.5INT No PS Top USB3.0 HD Audio 73, 33$ tax and shipping includes.)

iS THIS THE GOOD ONE AT 239$? (Tigerdirect)

Asus ROG Maximus VI Hero Motherboard - ATX, Socket LGA1150, Intel Z87 Express Chipset, 2800MHz DDR3 (O.C.), SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 8-Channel Audio, Gigabit LAN, SLI/CrossFireX Ready, USB 3.0

Any one has this card?

Even if I would like the GTX 780 I want to build an HTPC.
Is there a graph card with 3 DVI & 2 HDMI on the market?

Thanks for any suggestion…….

Do not bump posts. - G

Solution
Most of the times, WiFi or wireless storage devices can be very, very slow in the read/write speeds. In the later future, it might me a good purchase to back up onto, but not necessarily needed off the bat. The price is also very expensive for only 1 TB of storage. If you want to spend the 200$, get a higher capacity SSD. Any other questions, feel free to leave a response or give me a PM. Good Luck and happy gaming!

For gaming you don't really need an i7. The one thing you have to keep in mind when setting up a BitFenix Prodigy is there's massive heat issues associated with it - and that's mainly due to the small size. You can control it with the right cooling setup. You can fit a GPU like the 780 but you need to be aware of the heating issues.

I would do something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($239.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X40 98.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($90.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87E-ITX Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($164.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Mushkin Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: OCZ Vector Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card ($663.98 @ Newegg)
Case: BitFenix Prodigy (Black) Mini ITX Tower Case ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 600W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($17.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $1622.89
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Thanks a lot for your answer.

For the cpu cooler did you pick this one because of the small size of the case or not?

I found two and they are 40$ less will they make the same job?

CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 (CW-9060007-WW) Water Cooler

or

CORSAIR Hydro series H50 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

thx

Sorry for the late anser, I was scouring through the older posts, and to anser your question about the different water coolers, those will not cool as efficient as the air cooler he chose, believe it or not. Thos will clean it up a bit if you are going for looks, but you will not benefit as much with those. If you put in that fan controller, you will lose the one 3.5" bay, therefore eliminating an enclosed blu-ray drive option. There may be a way to put the drive outside the case, threading the wires through the back of the case possibly, never really messed with that sort of thing. But if you find a will, there will be a way. Again, sorry to make you wait, just that your post got washed away with the newer ones. Good luck, and happy gaming!

The power supplies from corsair are always very good quality, but that wattage is a bit overkill for what you are doing. Unless you are running 32 GB ram, and overclocking SLI 780's, you will never need more than 800W. But the one you linked will serve you greatly, and I would get it while it's on sale. So it all boils down to your budget limits. That is a very good PSU to wrap up. About the cooler you linked, it will work wonders. Any other questions, feel free to leave more comments. I will stick with this thread until it's solved! :D Good luck and happy gaming!

THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS OOPPS ZORRY!

Are you sure about the cpu size ?

So far I bougth these :

1- Bitfenix Prodigy Mini-ITX Tower Case Orange 1X5.25EXT 5X3.5INT Top USB3.0 HD Audio 73,33 $
2- Enthusiast Series TX950 Power Supply 80Plus Bronze 109,98 $
3- Zalman LQ-310 CPU Liquid Cooler 52,44 $
4- Bitfenix Recon Fan Controler Black 34,02 $

My PS looks not compatible with the 1150 serie rigth or wrong?

I will not buy the gtx 780 it is way to expansive maybe the gtx 760 for ~275$ here in Canada it's always 10-15% more due to money exchange. The video card must have 3 outputs for my monitors plus 1 for my TV. I found this deal what do you think?

http://www.newegg.ca/Special/ShellShocker.aspx?cm_sp=ShellShocker-_-14-202-035-_-07172013_2
50$ free for new customer in July with 500$ purchase.

Whitch kind of hard drive to put in this small case hybrid or ssd plus any normal 1To drive?

I'm waiting for the Asus Maximus VI Impact MB but no news yet for avaibility.

thanks

Welp, the hard drive question goes as so: SSD will definitely help speed up your applications and OS you cram into it. I would reccomend a 128 GB SSD, either the Samsug 840 Pro, or the Sandisk Ultra Plus. Also, If it fits the budget, get a 1 TB WD Caviar Black HDD. The 760 card is a WONDERFUL video card. I am getting it for myself when I scavenge up the moolah for one. I would reccomend the Asus brand, as it has a custom PCB, and cooler, which in ratings and showdowns, has performed better than the other reference cards. It costs $259.99 on NewEgg, so it should fit in your budget. Pretty sure the card has the 4 outputs, but not very sure. Hybrid drives aren't very good in Price/ GB, so they run very expensive for what they deliver. I haven't heard anything about the Maximus VI Impact either, so sorry. Any other questions, feel free to leave a response or give me a PM. Good Luck and happy gaming!

Like Axl said, an ATX mobo will not fit in an ITX case. Take a look at this ITX wifi board- Gigabyte. It has a pretty good onboard wifi. If you were to go with anything but ITX, you could purchase a wifi card to go into a secondary PCI-e slot, but ITX boards only have one, which is taken up by your graphics card. Any other questions, feel free to leave a response or give me a PM. Good Luck and happy gaming!

Honestly I was waithing for the Maximus VI Impact MB to come out but no news on it yet. Will it be 200$ or 400$ like the Hero one I have not idea.

Also I think I wont be able to build a "1150" because The cpu cooler is or looks not compatile with the 1150's cpu but I'm not sure...?

If I'm not mistaken, the 1150 socket cooler can fit other sockets of the same brand, I've heard it called a universal socket. So I think you will be safe with this cooler on an Intel socket. I would assume the new Maximus VI will be around $350, as it will be revamped and improved vastly. So expect it to be pretty pricey. Any other questions, feel free to leave a response or give me a PM. Good Luck and happy gaming!

1155 and 1150 is same socket. All coolers from 1155 will fit to 1150 just fine.

Yeah, you can buy online, it's just that the discount applies when you have an in-store pick-up. The only MicroCenters we have in NY are in real shady parts of long island. So I just pay without the discount and not risk the obvious.

Again you don't need a 950W PSU for an mITX rig with a single card. Your system will draw at most 350W even on a full load. You don't need the i7. You also have an unlocked CPU with a motherboard that doesn't support overclocking. See my suggestions below.

Huge bargain that we don't have in Canada. How come we can't buy online?

I don't have an answer for that one. Here's what I would suggest:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($239.99 @ NCIX)
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X40 98.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($112.73 @ Newegg Canada)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87E-ITX Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($158.50 @ Vuugo)
Memory: Mushkin Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($69.98 @ NCIX)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($67.75 @ Vuugo)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card ($419.99 @ Memory Express)
Case: BitFenix Prodigy (Black) Mini ITX Tower Case ($74.99 @ NCIX)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($95.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Total: $1239.91
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

- Dropped the i7 and 16GB of RAM
- Better liquid cooler
- Better GPU
- PSU that is more suited to this build
- Motherboard and CPU are configured to support overclocking
