So, here is the situation.

I have a notebook with Nvidia GT640M LE...I tried to play GTA 4.....but it is so slow....the GTA 4 benchmark said I have around 25 - 30 fps. I went on Youtube and saw other people play GTA 4 with GT640M LE, and their gameplay is super smooth. I have the same game graphic setting as they do...can anyone tell me what's the problem?

SO what exactly happens in the game was....

When I first got into the game, the first couple seconds, maybe 4-5 s, the game ran super smooth, but right after that 5s, the game just slows down incredibly

This situation actually occurs in some other games I play also, it just seems like to me that the laptop is able to run it smoothly but somehow something makes it goes slow.

I have done some research online, and I suspect that it maybe because my primary display is set to Intel HD4000. I have tried to set my GT640M to primary display but it doesn't allow me to do that. I have tried to disable Intel HD4000 in the bios, but I can't do that either...(because I think the Manufacturer hid some options in the bios).....so I just have no idea what I should do.....

I am seriously hoping any professional here can help me

CPU: i7 - 3632QM 2.20 GHz Superboost
Ram: 8gb DDR3

Thanks for the quick response. What should be the acceptable temperature of the CPU while playing game like GTA 4???

I have tried to install the driver. I tried to disable Intel HD4000 in device manager, and then uninstall and reinstall the Nvidia driver...the same situation still exists. I guess when I say I couldn't change the primary display I meant windows doesn't allow me to do so....

Ok, that isn't thermal throttling. Here's something I found on a dell support thread:
"Go to Nvidia Control Panel. At top Click on Desktop (or View). Check all boxes. This will provide a choice of which graphics processor to use by right clicking the game or other program. The GPU Activity in the Notification Area of the task bar will show which programs are using the Nvidia GPU. You may want to uncheck "Show only programs on this computer" in Program Settings tab in Manage 3D Settings. Use all other default settings in Nvidia Control manager. You can test this by going to You Tube with Internet Explorer and searching for an HD Video. Be sure the settings in the flash video are at 720p or 1080p. While the video is playing, open the GPU Icon in the notification area. You will see either the Explorer Icon or a miniature copy of the web page."

check in your bios to make sure nvidia optimus tech is switched off just to be sure that its not playing up n using the intel gpu for games some times it dont like switching cards properly if that don't work there's a few more thing's you can try good luck and happy gaming ;)
