Which is the better budget gaming build?

Solution

Just a few final changes:

I switched the Samsung 840 for a faster-yet-cheaper Sandisk Ultra Plus 128gb ($5 less but with 8gb more capacity)

I noticed that you did not have a storage hard drive so I added in a Seagate Barracuda 1tb ($65)

The CPU cooler that you chose is not any better than the stock one, so I added in a better one ($20 more)

Here is the build (I think this is pretty much final):

Ok the processor is the i5-4570, which is a 'locked' processor meaning it cannot be overclocked. I am guessing that since this is your first build you most likely arent into that stuff.

The GPU is brand new - it just came out yesterday afternoon! It received good reviews and is an excellent bargain for $250...

Hope that helps you to know what the parts are :)

the above build is pretty good already. just some changes id make

-id go with the WD drive as it does have a bit more warranty if that matters to you
i see no reason to use the 4570 when the 4430 is 10 bucks cheaper and 200mhz makes nearly no difference
-id upgrade that psu to a xfx 550w. better unit overall

As far as the processor goes, it is a better CPU, but because the socket has been replaced, I wouldn't recommend it for this reason:

The advantage is in the motherboard. 1150 motherboards have many more features compared to 1155 (and 2011). For example both my 1155 and my 1150 only have 2 USB 3.0s and 2 SATA IIIs, while my 1150 has 6 USB 3s and 6 SATA IIIs giving you much more expand-ability both internally (SATA) and externally (USB). On top of that, the 1150 is the latest socket so if you wanted to upgrade to 5th gen when it comes out, you could do that without a motherboard change.

You also have an h77 board, with an unlocked CPU which is not good (and you will have to pay even more for a z77 - and you are missing an SSD which I really recommend getting - but overall I would stay away from that build all together :)

-id still change the CPU. no point of spending 10 bucks for something that you cant actually see
-id still change the psu for a higher quality unit
-you dont need the molex adaptor or sata cable. the board has all the sata cables and the board provides enough fans to run the chassis for the most part. get a Y fan splitter instead
