I whent to do that this morning but could not as my system would not even power up. last night after i had everything installed i hooked up all the cords, powered it up, i hit the power button and fans started like normal for about a second then it all shut down. at the time i didint think to much of it. i hit the power button again and it started fine, until it tries to boot to windows 7 then i get that stop error.

when i tried to start it this morning fans ran for about a second shut off then started on its own for maybe half second. after that there was no response from the power switch.

i let the system set for about an hour and tried to start it again, it started for about 10 seconds then shut off again. now it will start and get to the windows 7 boot screen again but still has a stop error.

could this be a problem with my cooler master 850 watt power supply? it was a part of my original build 4 years ago. can a power supply cause a stop error?

I won't be surprised if that's the issue considering you have made some major Hardware changes. A failing power supply can cause all sorts of issues but the error code you are seeing is mostly for HDD or Boot Sector failure I believe.

What I will suggest you is :

1. Go back to the case and inspect all connections again. I am sure you probably have already but give it another go and take a thorough look.

2. Remove all Ram Modules and test with old Module if they are compatible with the new board, else you will need to test the New Ram Modules one at a time and switching on the pc after each time.

3. Alternatively disconnect all hardware except those needed for boot and only connect each one back with a restart.

4. Use your Windows 7 CD to repair your current Windows Installation

Please keep me updated if possible

Would the HDD or some other component not getting proper power cause that blue screen? I would think that nothing would boot if that were the case but it's intermittent so that's confusing. I'm going to take my PSU over to his house tonight and see if we can do some tests.

I don't believe so but at least testing with another PSU might fix the issue or eliminate one possibility so not a bad idea at all.

ok chnaged it to IDE and no change. i did remove all the components that i had installed and re-installed them just to make sure that i had everything pluged in right. i tried last night to install windows from the install disk. it came up with another blue screen stop error, but this time it was a diffrent code. 0x0000007B (0xFFFFFADE63C323C0......) the rest of the code is still the same as before.
the computer asked if i wanted to auto repair the start up, i did that. normaly it states that it can not fix the problem and there are no faults when looking through the log. this time it still said it could not fix it but there were faults at the end of the log:
a patch is preventing the system from starting.
repair action: system restore
resoult: failed. error code = 0x1f
time taken = 248900 ms

repair action: system files integrity check and repair
results: failed. error code = 0x490
