Right now i have the ASUS Radeon HD 7870 2GB GDDR5 Videocard in my computer. And i have a compitable Motherboard and Power Supply to add another card to crossfire. But can i use all Radeon cards with crossfire to my ASUS Radeon HD 7870? I was thinking Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz 2GB "FleX"
I have ASUS Maximus VI Gene Motherboard and 650W Power supply.
Will it fit?

The cards need to be the same, they can be from different manufacturers like XFX, MSI, EVGA etc... It's best to get an identical one simply to eliminate any potential problems, keep them at the same speeds, if not it will auto throttle the faster one.

The two cards you described should work fine together. What brand is your power supply? It might do the job if it's well made.

I recommend two of the same. I think you will probably be fine powering both with the PSU you have.

It's different for AMD than it is for NVIDIA. Radeon cards can crossfire with any card in the same hundred series, while Nvidia cards must be the same. so you can crossfire a 7870 (Non-Tahiti!) with a 7850.

There's not much point in doing so, though since the 7870 will clock it's performance down to the 7850, so you'd effectively have a pair of 7850's.

The "7870" is two different cards now thanks to the tahiti version release. an oriignal 7870 CANNOT be crossfired with a tahiti 7870.

The tahiti 7870 can be crossfired with a 7950 or 7970, but once again, you'll lose performance on the faster card as it clocks itself down to match the slower card.

Your best bet is to find another 7870 with the same chipset as your card. Like the previous poster said, it can be from any manufacturer, but you're best off getting the same manufacturer/model.

There *are* some quirks out there. For instance an ASUS DC2 7850 will NOT crossfire with an ASUS DC2T 7850, I found out to my dismay. System wouldn't even get past POST. however, when I flashed the DC2T bios to the DC2, all was good.

If you do end up xfiring, you'll want to get the 13.5 beta 2 drivers; they greatly reduce the frame latency in xfire setups (AMD's working on a release version of the drivers now)
