Hello everyone! So I'm a pretty broke college student, but I've been hoping to save up the money this summer to build a new PC that I can play games on and use in the future for my coding and creating games myself(I am a computer science major). Anyway, I have a stock desktop computer that I bought a couple years back. Its a HP with AMD cpu. About 8 months ago I put in a new graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 630 and a new power suppl: Thermaltake TR2 600w. (I didn't know I could put in a PCI 3.0 graphics card into a PCI 2.0 slot)
I want to switch over to Intel. Here is the initial setup I was thinking:
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155
MOBO: ASRock Z77 Extreme6 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Tower: nzxt phantom (either mid of full... not sure what I need)

So I had already ordered the extreme6 MOBO cause it seems to have what I want and looks really cool. But someone told me that its very power hungry and that I would need to upgrade my power supply. And that furthermore, I would need new RAM cause this board takes more expensive stuff. I would just like a second opinion on that since I don't know too much about building a PC except for what I read online. I can't seem to find any information on a minimum wattage requirement for the MOBO. (I don't have the money to have to spend 100 more on a PSU and 100 more on an upgraded ram). I currently have 8gb of ram, but its just stock ram.

I guess the nitty gritty that I want to know is whether I could set up what I want to with my current power supply, ram, and any other stock parts you might imagine, and have an improvement in performance over what I have now. (Obviously I would upgrade my ram eventually when I save up for it, I just haven't thought of it as being essential at this time.)

Anyway, thank you for reading through all of this and please let me know what you think! Any other suggestions, or if I can get something better for the price I would really appreciate it! :)

It is quite possible you will need new memory. If your computer is older, it might have DDR or DDR2 memory, and the Extreme6 takes DDR3. This means you would need new memory to go with it. You can easily get a 4GB stick for under $50, though, and that is all you really need for gaming, so i would not worry much.

As for the power supply, 600W is usually what people use in dual graphic card systems with big processors. I really doubt you would need more than that. I have a Extreme4 myself, which is slightly smaller, in a way, and i don't even come close to 600 yet with an i7-3820 @3.6GHz and a GTX 680. I think you'd be fine unless you stick 3 graphics cards in there.

Also, for gaming, you might want to consider upgrading that 630. It is barely going to play some demanding games at 1080p. I would personally consider at least a 660 (or even better, a 760), but I'm the kind of guy who bought a 680, so maybe you want to spend a bit less :)

Post the specs for the old system. If it has DDR3 RAM in it, you should be able to use it in the new mobo & CPU.

Your TR2 600W will be just fine with that CPU and mobo, no need to get a new one.

Regarding the case, either mid or full tower is fine. Its just a matter of weather you think you will need that extra space in the future.

So is that motherboard not as power hungry as someone told me? Oh and I will definitely be upgrading my graphics card, I know its crappy. But its just a matter of time. Cause right now I'm trying to get the essentials to build the computer and get it to run. I need a new MOBO, I must get a new CPU cause the one I have now is AMD, and I'm guessing I must get a new case to fit that stuff in (unless it will magically fit into the stock case I have now).

But thank you for the answers so far! I've pretty much given up on my building computer dream until now :)

Here are the current specs for my computer (I can't seem to find the ram specification from windows system info) :
