I have a 4770k with a msi gd65 gaming motherboard.
I have different programs showing different temps. When idle on the desktop. coretemp, the program, says i am running about 29-32 c. But in the bios, the motherboard monitors the cpu at about 37-40c when i am just sitting there looking at the screen without doing anything intensive. Is one or the other reading the temperatures incorrectly? I will try other programs if you so wish.

Solution
Coretemp I have personally found is not very accurate at displaying the CPU temp correctly. I personally use CPUID's Hardware Monitor for temps and have found it to be more accurate.

When in the bios the CPU fan will not adjust like it will in windows. Now add the fact that while in the bios the CPU gets it full voltage the hole time and runs at the max set core speed will add heat while in the bios. These add up to a higher reading in the bios than when in windows.

Try a different program to read the temps on and see if there is a difference between Coretemp and the other program in CPU temps. This will let you know if core temp is reading accurate for you.
