Hi TH's forum,

I have a weird problem. I have an old laptop with 2X 512 PC2-4200, decided to upgrade it with ram so I bought 1GB PC2-5300 RAM.
System properties shows 896Mb, same amount before upgrade, but CPU-Z 1500 Mb. How could it be that Windows doesn't show more than 1Gb?

Thanks for all your help

SysInfo showed only the 1Gb stick while 512 RAM was plugged along (1025 Mb). If I put 2X 512, it says "slot 1: 512", "slot 2: 512". I'm using Windows XP. Any help would be great.

I have a Packard Bell SW35, Intel Celeron 410 M @ 1,46 Ghz, Insyde motherboard (bios upgraded from R1.04 to R1.06), and XP 32bit.
Is that what you're asking (sorry I've a terrible english)

Edit: could it be that my dual boot with Linux have something to do with it?
Also there are 896 Mb of memory of RAM in bios, that would be fun since I've ordered even more ram

Yes, Dual boot can reserve the memory. However, I do see that some models of the Packard Bell SW35 series support 1 GB and 2 GB maximum. Could it be the extra Memory is not being allowed to be used by the memory controller.

Use CPU-Z and try to post more details on the RAM specs (SPD Tab) also the motherboard model might help as the Packard Bell series don't carry much information over the internet.
