Mixing RAM on Asus Rampage III Gene

Hi all,

Curious if anyone has recommendations for a RAM upgrade...

I currently have 3x2GB (this, now discontinued) installed in triple channel on a Rampage III Gene mobo, and I'm thinking about an upgrade.

Now I know that this mobo has some pretty robust tweaking capabilities, so I was curious if anyone has any experience with changing timings, latency, etc on the Rampage III Gene, since I can't seem to find any memory out there with matching specs. So... 2 main questions:

1. What's the most important thing to have match when adding RAM? Brand? Voltage? Timing? Latency?

2. Will I run into problems if I don't get another triple channel package? My cooler blocks the last memory slot, so all but the shortest sticks won't fit in there. The manual touches on the fact that various memory channel configurations will be added to the overall memory pool, but it's not very clear.

As always, clarification is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Any time you mix sets, even of the same exact model it can be problematic..triple channel more so than dual...Best bet is just to get a new set of the amount you want, that way all are tested to work together, and if 1600 or above, XMP will work

Thanks for the reply, even though that's the answer I was hoping not to hear... I was hoping to be able to cut my memory upgrade cost in half by getting another 3x2GB set, but I guess I'll just start saving up now for a 3x4GB :D.
