ok thank you for the quick response. yea I only plan on playing games like minecraft, ace of spades, amnesia, payday the heist, and some older popular games like grand thefte auto. I plan on upgrading to a 7790 or 7870 or gtx 660 in the later future to play bigger games like bf3/ the upcoming bf4 on higher settings. I will be playing on a 24" tv as a monitor via hdmi. and I plan on getting these parts on newegg.ca as I live in Canada. and do you think I should get thermal paste? im positive with the fx chip the heat sink already comes with some applied but should I just get an extra tube?

so ill order these parts then. and I have a old 160gb hdd with windows xp ill use then just upgrade from xp to windows 7 right from that hard drive. so ill have 2 hard drives plugged in, one with windows xp and other programs. I should just boot right up into xp then right? no messing with bios or nothing like that?

There will be an application of paste on the new heat sink. If you plan on replacing it (AMD stock coolers aren't great, especially if you want to OC), a new cooler (I recommend the Xigmatek Gaia; cheaper but comparable to the more-often mentioned Hyper212 EVO), the new cooler will also come with paste.
And, your discovery about moving an existing drive is correct; it almost never works, and when it does, the result is generally never "right." A clean install is the way to go.
