Ok so I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get sound to work on my new build. Everything is working perfectly except the sound. Here's my build:

ASUS z77 V Pro
OCZ Fatal1ty 550w PSU
8gb (2x4) corsair vengeance 2133mhz ram
Samsung 840 250gb SSD
1tb Sata 3 Hard drive
1GB XFX ATI 5850 Graphics card
Windows 7 Pro

I have checked everything:

Motherboard
Drivers
Different speakers
Headphones

The sound panel says "Realtek High Definition Audio Not Plugged In" which is greyed out. There are digital optical output options there which are not greyed out but I have tried connecting my speakers to the computer using an optical cable and still nothing.

When I plug speakers or headphones into either the front or the back nothing pops up in windows.

I have just about to give up and create a support ticket with ASUS so I got my motherboard box to get the serial number etc. and I have noticed there is a white sticker on the left of the box that says "RMA 311712" .

Also the ASUS support tells me where to find the serial number on the motherboard box so I grab the box and where the serial number should be there is another sticker over the top of it that says the name of the motherboard and "Warranty void if removed" so I cant actually read the serial number.

Is this anything to be concerned with I hope I haven't been sent someone else's RMA'd board. Should I peel off the sticker and contact ASUS or contact the company who I bought the motherboard from first who is www.scan.co.uk

Any help would be appreciated???

Thanks for the reply, I have contacted scan.co.uk and they seem to have sent me an RMA application. They have not even contacted me to ask me to try anything or confirm that the board is completely broken or if its just the audio.

This seems strange to me and kind of suggests that they have released that they have sent me an RMA'd board or something.

Ok so it turns out Scan.co.uk did send me someone else's RMA'd board and after 2 weeks I now have received my new motherboard. Ill never shop at Scan.co.uk again but anyway I managed to get them to give me some free TIM cleaner so that I can install my CPU and heat sink onto the new motherboard.

What they have sent me is called "TIMclean" and the description says "removes silver base thermal grease", the compound I am using is Artic MX-4.

Can anyone tell me if the TIM cleaner is compatible with MX-4, I don't think it is as its not silver based but just wanted to confirm before I break something.

Also if its not would I get away with just cleaning off the MX-4 with a damp cloth and then drying, as I really don't want to wait any longer by buying some on amazon.
