I have these 2 d-link products:
DIR-825 (router) - http://
DAP-1522 (access point) - http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/access-points-range-extenders-and-bridges/dap-1522-xtreme-n-duo-wireless-n-access-point

I have a house with 3 floors. Currently I have my router in the basement only broadcasting on 2.4ghz as SSID1 and the access point in the top floor of my house broadcasting in only 5ghz as SSID2.

Here is my question:
Can I have 1 broadcast SSID that is both 2.4ghz and 5ghz? And if so can I have both devices broadcast this profile?
If that's not possible can I have each device broadcast both profiles and have them not interfere with each other? Meaning, both the router and the AP would broadcast SSID1(2.4ghz) and SSID2(5ghz) and my phone would flip between getting the signal depending on which one was closer (or however that works).

Your DIR-825 router is dual band, which means you can have both a 2.4 and 5 GHz bands broadcasting from it. You'll definitely want to setup different SSIDs for each frequency (the default will be dlink for 2.4Ghz and dlink_media for the 5Ghz), because otherwise it will be hard for you to determine which is which when looking at your list of available wireless networks. I usually just put 5Ghz at the end of my 5Ghz band (Example: Network A, and Network A 5Ghz)

To setup your DIR-825 in the basement: youtube video you can skip to 1:37 if you've already got it out of the box

Make sure you enable the 5Ghz band in the router's settings. The video should guide you through accessing the router's settings.

To setup your DAP-1522 upstairs as an access point: FAQ on D-Link's website

This process uses WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), which is basically you pushing a button on both your access point and router. Then you bring your DAP-1522 upstairs and plug it back in.

**At any point in this process if you feel you've messed something up, you can hold the reset buttons for 10 seconds (while they're powered on) on the back of both of these and they should reset back to factory settings.

If anyone sees any problems with my solution, please let us know!

Ask any questions if anything is unclear JeffWScott. :)

Setting up the DIR-825 is easy, or within my capability. The WPS setup has never worked for me, that's why I have the networks setup the way they are. If I try and have the 5ghz active on both devices it gets really flaky and drops a lot. I should be able to have the 5ghz band active on both devices and have that SSID the same.. correct???

Okay I did a little more research and discovered the DPS 1522 cannot operate in dual and mode. What this means is you have to pick either 2.4 gigahertz or 5 gigahertz for the DPS 1522 to operate in.
.
I found an excellent how to article that explains how to set up the GPS 1522 as an access point manually since the WPS isn't an option here:
