7870 vs 7950 vs 7970? Worth the $$? Never Overclocked, Please help!

My current system specs:

CPU: AMD Phenom™ II X6 1055T Six-Core CPU
GPU: XFX HD Radeon 6850
PSU: 750 Watt -- Thermaltake TR2 TRX-750M

Okay, so I've been considering an upgrade to my graphics for a while now and wanted to get some feedback. What would be my best option in terms of future proofing my system and being able to play games @ 1080p? I currently only run 1 monitor and would like to play high/ultra settings in BF4 at good frames.

I have never overclocked either my GPU or CPU, I am a bit of a computer noob. I would not be opposed to that option, just always heard it talked about but never attempted. I'm doing this mostly so that I can play BF4 on awesome settings.

I have heard that the 7950 would be a good option if I overclock it, other wise a 7870 might be a better stock option. The price range is almost a $200 difference between the 7870 and the 7970, so I don't want to overpay for something if there is a better option for the price/performance that I need.

Options being considered:

Please help me out! Thank you

  1. If you want to buy, get the 7870 XT - Its a 7870 with the tahiti gpu(the ones on 79xx gpu's. = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202024&Tpk=7870%20xt&IsVirtualParent=1

7950 has best OC and bang for the buck IMO. almost as fast as 7970, but just a little behind.

7970 very good card. If you can afford it, get it, you wont be disappointed. OC good too!

IF you buy 7870XT edition, its much faster then the normal 7870!
  2. As a long time AMD/ATI user it pains me deeply to say this but the Nvidia GTX760 is a better overall choice-virtually the same performance as the 7950 but $50 or more cheaper.
Of the cards linked to, the 7950 is the sweet spot (which is why I run one ;) ). And it gets even better with an overclock.
If you can get hold of the 'never settle' game bundle the 7950 is even better.
