Can I use the heatsink from my old phenom x3 2.1ghz on my new phenom x6 2.8 ghz till I can afford a new one? Another thing aswell... Im gona get a gigabyte gtx 660. Ive heard it uses about 180 watts. Im gona get a 500 watt psu with the phenom x6 and gtx 660 so can it handle those for a while?

What's the power of your current power supply?

And did your new Phenom not come with a heatsink? - you must've bought an OEM version, I suppose.

That being said, as long as they share the same socket, the heatsink should be fine. I believe both are AM3 socket, so you're good to go :)

Just make sure you clean the heatsink and re-apply the thermal paste when using it on the new Phenom.

Socket simply means the type of motherboard that the CPU fits into. Those two Phenoms are both AM3. Other examples of AMD sockets are AM2, AM3+, FM1, FM2.

And ahh, 300W won't be enough, so yes, you must definitely upgrade :p
