I dont have much knowledge on motherboards/video cards but if somebody could help i would really appreciate it.

At the moment i have a really old PC (around 5-7 years) and i game quite a lot or at least try. my mother board at the moment is a Gigabyte GA-73pvm-s2h and im not sure what video cards it will support. My cousin has a HD5970 that he says he can give me and i have been looking around and people say that my board doesn't support PCI-e x16 2.1 but somebody said that they emailed gigabyte and they gave him a bios update (F9F i believe) and it allowed the card to be backward compatible with 1.1. Is this true, can i get this card?

If what i am saying is completely wrong can anybody tell me what graphics cards i can buy that aren't completely bad and will allow me to run some games higher?

Thanks for the help!

It is true some of old MB with pcie1.0x16 does not compatible with the pcie2.1X16 GPU (Only for the AMD HD GPU). But if you get the new BIOS for your MB then you will be fine, because after you update the BIOS, they will compatible again.

*Add you will get lower performance from the pcie1.1X16 when you put the GPU in it.

Thanks for the reply

I'm not too fussed with the lower performance because it is still way better than having no GPU at all but still thanks for replying now i know i can definitely get it :)
