Hello,
I have decided to build my own PC over the next few weeks and have put together a list of components I would like to use.

As it is my first build I would like some advice from people who are more experienced in building a PC from scratch on the components I have chosen, basically if they are will work well together and any ideas on areas I can improve.

I will mainly be using it for Gaming but will also be running Avid editing software on it. I am not looking for the cheapest rig I can get but am looking for value for money.

Components:

CPU: Intel CPU Core i5 4670K Haswell

Motherboard: MSI z87 G45 Gaming Intel Mainboard - LGA 1150

PSU: Corsair GS-700 700W

Case: Corsair Obsidian 650D (Ideas for different case - cheaper)

Memory: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2133 CL11 Vengeance - $99

Video Card: MSI nVidia GeForce GT 640 2GB - $110

Many Thanks for any advice or ideas.
Jon.

Bad RAM, Morbidly expensive case for the parts, Bad GPU.

Corsair 300r case?
Corsair vengeance 2x4gb DDR3 1600 CL9 - about $60 / alternatives in gskill sniper / ripjaw / ares or mushkin redline etc.

Use any money saved to buy a minimum of a 660/670 / 760 or if you can scrape enough savings a 770 or any radeon equivalent, 7870 ghz 7950, 7970 *good pricing with the 4 free games on the 900 models or 2 on the 800

Plus you haven't listed a hard drive of any sort, may I suggest a WD blue 1tb - WD10 EZEX

And those components would only require a 600w PSU, although a 750-800w PSU would be wanted if you ever intended to upgrade by adding a second GPU to your build later.

Thanks drtoast. Yeah forgot to mention I am using my old 1TB HD from a previous build as it has my windows and everything already on it, but dont have it with me so couldnt write exactly what it is. It is either a Seagate or WD.

Thanks for advice about the case, thought it was too dear but didn't know what another good option would be with all the choices out there. The Corsair looks good and is far cheaper.

Will also look into different RAM as you have suggested. And yeah wanted slightly more PSU power than needed in case I want to upgrade in the future.

Would this system be able to run most game on high settings do you think? And would it be reasonably fast on video editing and compression?

Many thanks again.
