I can't open anything and it's driving me insane

That's basically what is going on, I don't know what is the perfect category for this problem to fall under but hopefully someone would be able to help me out with this.

I can't open my videos or my pictures that are stored onto my hard drive and I can't open many of my games (.exe files).

Help please.

How do you open the "exe files? They are executables and only require a double-click.

Check the associations of the video and picture files, an earlier version Google Chrome self-associated itslef with images and videos upon installation to which it then failed to load them and caused repeated copies of those files on the hdd. Google Chrome should never be associated with anything other than web files.

Windows 7 x32 and x64 had a built-in video player whereas Windows 8 x32/x64 removed that option to reduce the size of the installation.

What is your OS? What are the games? Are there any associatons for the images/videos?
Associations for files is shown by the icon for the file otherwise it looks like a blank icon type.
