Hello good people of Tom's Hardware . A couple of days ago I was playing a game on my PC when it decided to shut off unexpectedly. There was crackling sounds coming from it, and my power light started to flicker which then led to the whole thing switching off. There was a slight burning smell too.

Powered on fine after the incident. I've been using it since. No problems as of yet, but I'm scared that it might happen again.
Here are my specs:

i5 3570k CPU

msi MS7740 VER:1.2 motherboard

Tesla 750-TE BR PSU

GTX 650 Ti graphics card

What PSU would you guys say is ideal for my build? I'm leaning towards the CXM 500W, but I would like to hear your suggestions.

Here's a link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Builder-Series-Modular-...

Thanks in advance. Sorry if I'm asking in the wrong area.

Do you plan to SLI or upgrade the GPU anytime soon? If not, you can easily get a 400-450W PSU that meet those specs.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes I do plan on upgrading my GPU soon.

I'm planning to a get a 500W PSU. This one to be exact http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Builder-Series-Bronze-S.... But I'm afraid that there might be better ones out there for the price.

Don't run that PSU if you are upgrading your GPU soon ,it's only a budget build power supply.

What would you suggest for something like the 7870? I don't plan on changing my GPU too soon, maybe in about a years time.
