Hi,

Recently, I just bought a Plextor M5S 128GB. I heard it uses Marvell in it. Coincidently, my motherboard GA-Z77X-D3H does provide Marvell driver as well. I am very new in the storage thing.

a) There is a few thing I am not sure if I need to install it or not.

1. Intel® Rapid Storage Technology
2. Intel SATA Preinstall driver
3. Marvell Preinstall Driver
4. Marvell Storage Utility
5. Marvell SATA Controller Driver

b) I am plugging the SSD into my first SATA3 port which noted as 0. Is it correct?

Please help me with it. Thank you very much in advance.

My PC Specification:
Processor: Intel i5-3570K
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
Memory: Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600Mhz 2x4GB
Graphic Card: Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce GTX 650Ti
Hard Drive: Western Digital Blue 500GB 7200rpm 16MB Cache
Power Supply: Corsair VS650
Casing: Cooler Master Centurion 6
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 101
OS: Windows 8 Professional

Where's the problem ?
It doesn't harm your computer if there are a few "unused" drivers.
But anyway, in my opinion, Intel® Rapid Storage Technology and Marvell Storage Utility are useless. The most important of them is the fifth one; Marvell SATA Controller Driver.
By the way you said
b) I am plugging the SSD into my first SATA3 port which noted as 0. Is it correct?
?
I don't quite understand what you mean but to answer your question; yes, I think it's correct that the port is noted as 0.

Hi DeathValley,

I am sorry for being unclear. They used to start during startup which greatly delay my startup speed of my hard drive. So I am trying to install what I need only. Besides, I heard Plextor uses Marvell controller, so, I am thinking if there is any relation with the Marvell driver for my Motherboard as I heard from my friend. He said chipset used to perform better if both component are the same.

For the question b, it is because there is SATA3 and GSATA3 , so, I am thinking if my SSD is using Marvell should I go GSATA but I saw a lot of comment online saying that the original intel SATA port is always better so I am confuse now.

Indeed, the Intel AHCI SATA driver is way better than the GSATA3 so in my opinion, what you should do is install the Intel SATA driver and uninstall all Marvell drivers. (REMEMBER ALWAYS TO MAKE A COPY OF ALL ORIGINAL DRIVERS, you can never know) If you already have the Intel driver installed, simply remove the Marvell drivers and queep the Intel one so everything should go smooth. Before you do anything, I strongly recommend you to COPY all the drivers you are going to remove in case it doesn't work properly.
EDIT: As I said, Intel® Rapid Storage Technology is useless so just keep the Intel SATA Preinstall driver.

Hi DeathValley,

For Intel Rapid Storage Technology, should I install if I want to use some of my ssd space as cache for it?

Thank you very much for your help. =]

In that case, yes of course, anyway I was wrong; apparently Rapid Storage provides better performance and lower power consumption, that's only what I read, but it's most users advice so yeah I think you should go for it!
If there's still something hitching you, feel free to ask. (Besides, it's nice to see someone that consider other's answers and reply to them quickly, continue that way!)
Have a nice day and I hope it works out fine.

Hi!
I'm sorry to inform you that I'll be away for two weeks time and so I think it would be best for you if you have any further questions that you post a new thread, because this one has already a lot of replies (perhaps useless to you, unfortunately) and very few people will actually consider having a look in it, (only 35 views or so) plus, it's rather old. (yes, old, on this forum, as every forum, two ours is vintage)

I'm sorry if ever I haven't been of any help to you and that I can't answer you any further.
