SO I have a 600gb raptor drive for my operating system and 4 2tb drives connected by sata and esata for storage. Recently my computer processor would spike to 100% on all four cores and the computer would become responsive. Trying to restart the computer would freeze at the Win7 splash screen . After trying a million different things turning off the port for one of the drives on the motherboard allowed the computer to run normally. Two weeks later the computer stalled at the start up again and disabling the esata port from bios allows the computer to run normally. I have taken one of the drives in question out and put it in a dock and it seems to run stable. Any ideas? Motherboard? Cables? I reformatted the drives and it seem to help for a short time but then everything went back to the way it was before.

Power supply.

Well,, the very first thing I would do is replace the cables if you have not done that. They don't cost much, and I have had cables go bad before, and they can cause the problem you are having. If that doesn't do it, next I would indeed look to the PSU. A failing PSU that is spiking and/or dropping voltages, supplying "dirty" power, can cause all sorts of weird issues that at first may not seem like they are PSU related. Thats my 2 cents anyway.
