I am going to build a gaming and productivity rig soon. I do occasinal audio and image editing and CS6 work, as well as some VS2012 C++ as a hobby.

So far I have decided as follows:
-Intel 4770k
-Nvidia GTX780
-Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC
-using the SSD, HDDs and PSU I already own

What I what to know, is a good enthusiast DDR3 kit at 16BG. I'm willing to pay a bit more for good enthusiast quality performance, but not silly amounts. In the past I have always bought Corsair, but buying is no longer as easy to figure out as it once was with banwidth/latency differences making it difficult to work out trade-offs. Any reccomendations?

I also want to add that I like to run linux within VMware, use 3d apps within it and utilise the full virtualisation capabilities of the cpu.

Hmm ok. I Currently run a AMD 1090T machine with 8GB of Cosair 1333mhz XMS3. Would I notice much differece in performance to upgrade to my proposed build? Would my VMs run better or worse? I know with 6 AMD cores it's nice to allocate 3-4 cores to the guest and it runs great, but with the intel it only has 4 cores. Maybe a question for another forum section :p

I couldn't tell you.

I'm also very unhappy with my 1090t and wouldn't suggest anybody buy one........... my view from personal experience. After sitting for about 2 years I will be RMA-ing it the end of next week.

your proposed has 4cores and 4virtual cores...............

I run a xeon.....................
