Really vague title, but what I really don't understand is: Why do Intel processors cost more for what seem to be slower speeds compared to AMD?

Let's take two different processors with the same core amount for example: AMD FX-4300 and Intel Core i5-2500k.

  • ■The AMD FX-4300 has 4 cores at 3.8 GHz and is about $120 at OutletPC.
■The Intel Core i5-2500k has 4 cores at 3.3 GHz (3.7 GHz Turbo Boost) and is about $230 at OutletPC.

How come the Intel core i5-2500k costs so much more than the AMD FX-4300 but runs at a slower speed? Are there some hidden values that I'm missing? Do Intel processors have more features than AMD processors? I'm very confused.

There is a bit of discussion here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1715329/ghz-work.html

But it is generally how well the CPU performs each task if you are comparing GHz to GHz. This can get very complicated as you are comparing two different architectures which will function differently. This is why people tend to compare CPUs and other things with benchmarks on certain tasks or the intended task itself, as doing any math to calculate which item is better will be very long and tedious work and sometimes impossible.
