Hii everyone.

I have a lenovo y500 with core i7 3630qm cpu. I bought the laptop cause i need it for school. I'm going to use the laptop mainly for video editing, 3D animation, coding, and game-development (i'm going to study media- and software-development). I am wondering if i upgrade the 3630QM to a 3840QM, am i going to notice a big difrence in performance?
or is it better to upgrade something else?
I know it's best to get a ssd instead of a hdd but i need as much memory as possible to store all my projects in so a ssd would be really expensive.
Other specs of the laptop are:
2x nvidia 650m
8gb ddr3 memory
1TB hdd+16gb caching ssd

Sorry for my bad english (i'm from holland) and thanks in advance for the answers

I don't think you can upgrade a laptop CPU very easily. Some laptops can't be upgrade at all.

Edit: Never mind the above, I don't think it is worth trying to upgrade. $600 for 10-15% extra performance is not worth it at all. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116884) unless you can get this processor a lot cheaper.

It would be better to stick to what you have.

Yeah i know laptop's arent really upgrade friendly. But the lenovo y500 with 3630qm is compatible with the 3840qm, they have te same socket type and wattage so even the heat isn't going to be a problem.
The y500 is even compatible with the 3940XM i think.

If it is a cost-effective upgrade, then yes. But the performance improvement is not a lot.
