Solved

Need help with first build?

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: Soonish

Budget Range: $700 max after rebates. Shipping not included.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: Everything except monitor, mouse, keyboard, OS and graphics card.

Do you need to buy OS: Nah

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg

Location: NC

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: ?

Your Monitor Resolution: N/A

Additional Comments: Do not include a graphics card, I intend on getting a nice one after the initial build. Also I wouldn't mind the inclusion of a 128GB SSD and possibly a blu ray burner.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: A better gaming experience than my laptop can provide.

Thanks for taking a look at this and any future advice/answers.

So what you need is a "base" system with some extras like BD writer and SSD that allow adding a strong discrete VGA card at some point in the future and maybe overclocking, too , am I right? :) If so then I think this system can match all your needs:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($239.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($149.99 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Kingston XMP Blu Red Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($53.99 @ Newegg)
    Storage: Plextor M5P Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($117.28 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($64.98 @ Outlet PC)
Case: Zalman Z5 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case ($34.99 @ Newegg)
    Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($45.99 @ NCIX US)
Optical Drive: Asus BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($58.98 @ Outlet PC)
