I built my computer some time in jan 2012 and it was a running fine until my Power Supply fried this summer it was 500 wt(stock) it lasted for about a year..So I bought a new one, sadly the new one I bought is a Generic PSU(650 wt) and it Fried within 2 days I just simply turned off my power box and hen I started my computer it didn't start...im starting to lose it...I can't seem to Find out the problem with my computer. Some people say that it's my motherboard that's frying my Psu but that doesn't really seem possible and I know it's my Psu because my mouse/keyboard doesn't light up and I tested it with the paperclip trick.

Specs:
-His Radeon 6850
-AMD Eight core bulldozer-8120
-8 gb ram
-750 mb hard drive
-970A-D3 gigabyte Motherboard.

Can someone perhaps give me a suggestion on how much watts I should aim for?
I can't keep buying new a psu every monther on a tight budget and I have to Return this one I bought.
-Thanks

Buying a PSU because it says XXX watts on the side makes as much sense as buying a sports car because the speedo goes up to 120. Your system draw is around 300W max, gaming should be closer to 275. Any QUALITY PSU that has 300W+ should have no problem with your system. I suspect you've bought a couple of cheap/junk PSUs which is why they've died.

Your motherboard killing a PSU is quite unlikely. The more likely scenario is that you've been particularly unlucky with risky, inadequate power supplies lately. The best way to not have to keep buying new PSUs is to get one that's less likely fry on you.

Stop buying junky 600 watt power supplies and buy a reputable 400 watt one.
