So I got a new Acer Predator back in March 2013 and a few weeks after getting it it started to freeze 3-10 minutes after logging on. Pressing the power button wouldn't shut it down so I had no choice but to hard crash (holding down button button for 6-8 seconds, forcing an immediate shutdown). THE WEIRD PART: When I turn it on after hard crashing it works perfectly until I turn it off. If I wait more than a few hours before turning it back on it will freeze again a few minutes after start up, I will hard crash, and then turn it back on and it works fine. If I turn it back on within an hour it will continue to work fine. We sent it to Acer and the only problem they found was the the BIOS needed to be updated, they sent it back and the problem was not fixed. Now I'm taking things into my own hands. We have tried moving it to different places in the house to avoid the possibility of a power supply issue. When it freezes it doesn't give a blue screen or anything, pointer stops moving, display stops updating (time stops updating in bottom right corner). Whether I open any programs or not, it will freeze.
Take the stupid computer back and get a refund and build your own computer.
Sorry, I didn't mean to put this under Windows 8. My bad. Also, I'm trying to figure out the problem because if it is about the power supply coming from the house, then building a new computer wouldn't help much. I'm more interested in finding the source of the problem than just giving up and building a whole new computer.
